Coming Soon revisite le tableau d’Ingres La Grande Odalisque pour subvertir avec humour le regard orientaliste qui a façonné cette image emblématique. Sur scène, un personnage aux multiples facettes passe d’un rôle à l’autre et d’un tableau à l’autre: espiègle, effronté, maîtrisant le plaisir comme un art. À travers le grotesque et l’exagération, des images familières sont déformées et multipliées, ouvrant la voie à de nouveaux récits.

Coming Soon revisits Ingres’ painting La Grande Odalisque to playfully subvert the Orientalist gaze that shaped this iconic image. On stage, a multifaceted figure shifts between characters and tableaux: mischievous, cheeky, and in control of pleasure as a skill. Through grotesqueness and exaggeration, familiar images are distorted and multiplied, opening space for new narratives.

Soraya Leila Emery est une chorégraphe et danseuse suisse-marocaine basée à Zurich. Diplômée en danse contemporaine du CFPArts de Genève en 2014 puis du SEAD Salzbourg en 2017, elle obtient son Master en chorégraphie à la ZHdK de Zurich en juin 2024.

Son travail s’articule autour du plaisir féminin. Avec une perspective féministe, elle interroge les représentations du corps féminin arabe, la transmission de l’identité culturelle et, plus récemment, l’héritage et les imaginaires orientalistes.

Depuis 2023, elle développe une trilogie chorégraphique composée de TURN ON, Coming Soon et Kan Ya Makan, qui explore les relations entre plaisir, désir et regard, en s’intéressant notamment aux imaginaires orientalistes. Créée dans le cadre de son association avec TanzPlan Ost (2023/2024), TURN ON est sélectionnée pour la Sélection Suisse au Festival d’Avignon 2025 puis pour Aerowaves 2026. Artiste associée du Tanzhaus Zürich de 2025 à 2028, elle y crée Coming Soon et développe actuellement le dernier volet de la trilogie, Kan Ya Makan, dont la première est prévue en 2028.

Soraya Leila Emery is a Swiss-Moroccan choreographer and dancer based in Zurich. She graduated in contemporary dance from CFPArts in Geneva in 2014 and from SEAD Salzburg in 2017, and completed her Master’s degree in choreography at ZHdK in Zurich in June 2024.

Her work centers on female pleasure. From a feminist perspective, she examines representations of the Arab female body, the transmission of cultural identity, and, in more recent work, the influence of Orientalist heritage and imagery.

Since 2023, she has been developing a choreographic trilogy composed of TURN ON, Coming Soon, and Kan Ya Makan, which explores the relationships between pleasure, desire, and the gaze, with a particular focus on Orientalist representations. Created as part of her collaboration with TanzPlan Ost (2023/2024), TURN ON was selected for the Swiss Selection at the 2025 Festival d’Avignon and for Aerowaves 2026. As an associated artist at Tanzhaus Zürich from 2025 to 2028, she created Coming Soon and is currently developing the final chapter of the trilogy, Kan Ya Makan, which is set to premiere in 2028.
